This picture of the Sunoco station in Blawenburg was taken in the 1930s. The "garage" was owned by the Higgins family, who later became owners of the Belle Mead Garage. It had Sunoco gas on tap at this time, but various other owners had different gas brands. It was located on Rt. 601 east of Blawenburg Cemetery.
John Ficken owned the station for a long time and pumped Texaco gas. After additional owners, it became an antiques dealership. It had a large apartment above.
It was rebuilt about a decade ago and now houses small businesses on the ground level and apartments on the second floor.
Do you know anything about the history of this building? Previous owners? When it began? Do you remember getting gas or your car fixed there? If so, email blawenburgtales@gmail.com. All contributions are welcomed.
