Van Zandt Farmstead 1939

Updated: Jun 20, 2019

This aerial shot of the Van Zandt farm, taken in 1939, reveals several features that you might not be aware of. The house on the right still stands behind a hedge on Route 518.

- The barn to the back is now the Elk's Lodge.

- The building to the right of the barn is thought to be the original house or a portion of the original house that stood on the property. It was moved back to its present location many years ago.

- The Van Zandts were in the farm equipment business and you can see some of their items for sale in front of the barn.

- The old windmill was a prominent feature of the property and will will have a story about it along with a picture of its present location in a future blog.
